The Roaring Twenties (1939)

THE ROARING TWENTIES  (1939)  ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢
    D: Raoul Walsh
James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Priscilla Lane,
Gladys George, Jeffrey Lynn, Frank McHugh
Cagney and Bogart play doughboys-turned-bootleggers in a classic Warner Brothers gangster movie that doubles as a thumbnail sketch of American history between the world wars. Award-worthy performance by Gladys George as the tough-talking, gold-hearted saloon girl who keeps an eye on Cagney. The climax, in which Cagney staggers, collapses and expires on the snow-covered steps of a church, is pure gangster-movie ballet.
